I sat my degree in Law and Economics at Newcastle Upon Tyne University from where I joined KPMG accountants as a trainee in 1988.
I qualified in 1992 after spending time at Derby and Stoke on Trent offices. I worked in a range of departments although I found my time in medium sized audit the most enjoyable.
I left KPMG in 1994 to join an NHS Trust as Deputy Finance Director (rather than the circus). I wanted to see how things worked outside of practice. At the Trust I was responsible for the usual accounts department as well as IT, and Supplies. Life in the NHS was completely different to practice with a whole new glossary of terms to learn!
I particularly enjoyed some of the major IT projects I was responsible for, and a new area for me managing supplies, where I learnt my bartering skills. In complete contrast I also got great satisfaction from being heavily involved in a large community resettlement project.
In 1998 I returned to the Potteries to Knights where I am responsible for Accounts, IT and administration as Director of Finance and Operations. In my time here as with the NHS I have been heavily involved in various projects including the development and investment in groundbreaking IT systems, as well as developing the accounts services we offer both internal and external to the firm.
I live locally, with my husband who has his own glazing business and with my son. I enjoy exotic holidays, skiing when little people allow, swimming as much as possible, (shame you can’t swim to work), watching my sister in various horsey pursuits such as eventing, and although we have finished the restoration of our farmhouse it is a continual battle to keep it from crumbling so that takes up quite a lot of our time too.
