I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA degree in law in 1963 and after attending the College of Law at Guildford and passing my solicitors’ finals I joined Knights in 1964. I subsequently obtained a second degree, an LLB, from Cambridge University in 1966.
During the early part of my career I was a general practitioner and also taught property law on a part-time basis at Keele University. I became the Head of the Real Estate Department when this was formed in the 1970s and thereafter specialised in commercial property and minerals & waste work. I also taught property law at Staffordshire University on their Legal Practice Course and most recently I lectured for Central Law Training to other solicitors on a variety of property law topics.
I became the lead editor of Ross on Commercial Leases published by Butterworths in late 1998, this leading textbook being updated twice a year by myself and my colleagues.
I served for many years as a non-executive director of the local health authority and a governor of my old school. I am currently a trustee of the Haywood Rheumatism Research and Development Foundation and the Charles Strasser Foundation. I also serve as a Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire.
Since I retired as a partner I have continued to work as a consultant which involves a wide training role.
