Having attended Cambridge University from 1974 to 1977 and obtaining an MA in Mineralogy & Petrology, I joined the Stoke office of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co (predecessor of KPMG) in 1977 as a trainee accountant. I qualified as a chartered accountant in 1981 and, after two spells of secondment to the London office, became a tax partner in 1989. I left KPMG and joined Knights in 1992.
I work as part of the Corporate & Commercial Department with particular specialism in taxation and company law, with particular emphasis on corporation tax, income tax and capital gains tax as they affect owner-managed companies and the owners of them.
I also work extensively with the Real Estate Department with regard to value added tax, capital allowances and stamp duty land tax.
I am a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the tax faculty of that Institute.
I am a contributor to the taxation chapter of "Ross: Commercial Leases".
I am an occasional lecturer on tax for the Staffordshire University Legal Practice Course.
Spare time is spent fishing, playing golf and generally messing about on the water in Anglesey where I have a second home and many friends.
