expert planning legal services

Sustainable Communities. Carbon footprints. Planning can be a positive tool for creating a future we all want to be part of. But the buzz words and the procedural framework appear to be ever changing and can result in frustrating delays. Our specialist Planning Team has a sound working knowledge of all aspects of planning law, practice and policy and is helping our clients to achieve the best outcomes for them. Whether that's building new housing estates, maximising the value of any surplus landholding or simply navigating their way through the myriad of regulations and policies.

about the knights planning team

The team has wide experience across various sectors including both in-house local government and private sector. Andrea Bruce is head of the planning unit and has particular expertise in minerals planning, being described as "brilliant" by her clients in the Chambers Legal Directory for this sector.

The team deals with both contentious and non-contentious matters and frequently works with other departments such as development and real estate to find solutions on behalf of both commercial and private clients.

how knights solicitors can help you

We help with all aspects of obtaining planning permission from promoting sites through the local development framework process, preparation of a planning application and Section 106 agreements through to determination. If necessary we can assist with appeals, whether it proceeds by written representation, hearing or public inquiry.

Once planning permission is obtained we can advise on interpretation of permissions and conditions, Section 278 (highways) agreements and highways and footpaths diversions/closures. We have experience of planning enforcement, including bringing and defending prosecutions. Conservation issues, such as those arising from the Habitats Directive, and compulsory purchase are also amongst the many allied areas with which we are involved.
